IWD 2024\/www.internationalwomensday.com\/Theme<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

\u2018Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I didn\u2019t write that; I copied it from a website highlighting the goals of International Women\u2019s Day, celebrated in so many countries across the world on March 8th<\/sup> each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The motto for International Women’s Day 2024 is #InspireInclusion. The campaign’s goal is to create a more inclusive world for women, where women of all races, ages, abilities, beliefs and body images have equal opportunities and opportunities and where violence and exclusion have no place. The campaign calls for the inclusion of women in all areas of life, from business to agriculture, from art to science. The United Nations has decided that the theme of International Women’s Day will be a theme of equality every year until 2030.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is well worth remembering the range of activities that will be going on \u2013 they include community gatherings, conferences, awards, exhibitions, festivals, fun runs, corporate events, concert performances, speaking events and online digital gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Events are held by women’s networks, companies, charities, educational institutions, government bodies, political parties, community groups, the media, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had a look at some of the events that are going to be held around the world on the 8th<\/sup>, and although unfortunately I haven\u2019t learned the art of astral travel, it will be fun next Friday to contemplate some of what will be going on.  In Paris for example, the School of Glass Art & Design (Lyc\u00e9e Lucas de Nehou -Ecole du Verre de Paris) are organising a special event to celebrate IWD24. They have invited French writers and athletes to discuss and will also give performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Munich, an exhibition called ‘From Darkness to Light: Inspire Inclusion’ picks up on the theme of this year\u2019s IWD.  It is billed as \u2018a loud, almost provocative artistic outcry by Alexandra Kordas against violence against women and children and the cruel consequences in order to express her disgust towards sexual violence or any violence.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Australia is hosting events in cities across the country; in Melbourne women will really be spoilt for choice.  One event that caught my eye is billed as a \u2018Business Chicks Breakfast\u2019 I confess to harbouring some doubts about this title, but was reassured when I saw the speaker lineup: a First Nations Woman, an Olympian and a doctor.  Chicks clearly ain\u2019t what they used to be. Alternatively, the Master Builders Victoria International Women’s Day Breakfast will promote a vibrant discussion about diversity, equity and inclusion within the building and construction industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Staying in Melbourne, how about an empowering comedy celebrating womanhood? ‘Shine My Light’ is Taku Mbudzi\u2019s empowering debut one-woman solo comedy show, With wit, charm, and a unique perspective, Taku fearlessly tackles motherhood, entrepreneurship, societal norms, and everything in between.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I end my global IWD tour in Chennai, where the women of VS Hospitals cite an ancient chant from the Manusmriti, the book of Indian law: \u2018In societies where women are respected, there divinity blossoms.\u2019  Their mission statement says it all: \u2018We take immense pride in creating an inclusive environment where women, both as caregivers and recipients of care, are honoured, celebrated, and empowered. Our commitment to women’s empowerment extends beyond the confines of healthcare. At VS Hospitals, we recognize the critical role women play in bringing prosperity, stability, and harmony to our society.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
